Unter verbundener Diversifikation versteht man eine Ausweitung des Produkt- und Leistungsprogramms einer Organisation. Diese Ausweitung ist aber in den wichtigen Bereichen verwandt mit den bisherigen Aktivitäten. Bei der horizontalen Integration werden bereits bestehende Aktivitäten durch komplementäre Aktivitäten, d.h. durch komplementäre Produkte oder Fähigkeiten, konkurrierende Produkte oder Nebenprodukte, ergänzt (siehe Abb. 1). So bietet Google beispielsweise neben der normalen Suchfunktion auch Strassenkarten an.
