Eine zentrale Aufgabe des [[F&amp;E-Controlling|F&amp;E-Controllings]] ist die optimale Verteilung knapper Ressourcen auf vielversprechende F&amp;E-Projekte. Aufgrund von kurz aufeinander folgenden Unternehmenszusammenschlüssen mit anderen Pharmabetrieben gab es viele unterschiedliche Informationssysteme im Jahr 2001. Diese waren jedoch sehr unterschiedlich und nicht einheitlich verbreitet beim Management. Das machte die Planung, Steuerung und Kontrolle des F&amp;E-Portfolios schwierig. Das F&amp;E-Budget konnte zwar problemlos geplant werden, jedoch die zeitnahe Kommunikation von IST-Zahlen gestaltete sich schwierig. Weitere Probleme bestanden bei der passiven Verwaltung der Bereiche Investitionen und Projektzeiterfassung, bei den unterschiedlichen Informationsquellen und der fehlenden einheitlichen Plattform (Mitarbeitendenstand, Einkaufsvolumen). Aufgrund der Vielzahl von Informationssystemen und -prozessen wurde das Projekt &quot;get better&quot; ins Leben gerufen.
